Welcome to Golf Betting System's Predictor Model Microsite. Due to the heavy volumes of traffic running through the predictor models, we keep this on a separate URL and server so that it doesn't impact performance of the main GBS website - with over 1/4 million avid golf punters running well over 1 million different variations of predictor model output in 2012 this is now critical! For our archive of old predictors click here.
The GBS Predictor Model was conceived in 2008 to try and bring the most important elements and player attributes into a single place for everyone to use. If you've ever followed top level golf, it's evident that certain players respond time and again on certain types of track and in certain conditions; some players seemingly find form 'out of the blue', whereas others build up steadily to a win/contending performance over a period of weeks. Some players hit the ball very straight, some are wayward - but different types of player can seemingly survive at the top level by performing well when the conditions - and the courses - suit their game.
Many punters would identify Phil Mickelson as having a great short game; Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson as being monstrously long off the tee; Ian Poulter and Luke Donald being great putters...but other than the superstars of golf, who else is strongest in each department? Yes, you can pour through the stats and see who's putted well this season, but what the predictor allows you to do is combine all critical attributes and weight them according to how YOU see the demands of each event.
Over the years we've collated mountains of statistics to form the basis of the predictor model, identifying which attributes are strongest with each player. On top of that, we overlay current key stat trends to give a truer indication of how a player is performing at present, plus there's current form statistics and event history. In 2012 we introduced a series of new attributes into the PGA Tour predictor model, including grass type on greens, course type, course par and location-based variables such as coastal, desert etc. These elements are also nearing completion for inclusion within the European Tour predictor model and will be launched during the second quarter of 2013.
The GBS website, which is now a proud member of the GPWA, CAP/CAP, AGD and PAL was launched in the autumn of 2008 initially with just the output of the predictor model effectively pasted into a webpage. Since then the website has expanded massively to incorporate the following aspects.
Paul Williams and Steve Bamford are the 2 resident pundits - Paul focuses mainly on the European Tour and Steve focuses on the PGA Tour, however during the Majors and WGC events they'll tend to join forces and produce an extended range of commentary including longshots and alternative markets selections. Their betting history is transparent and all profit & loss is recorded on the 'PGA Tour Tips' and 'European Tour Tips' pages along the top navigation of this and every page on the website.
In 2012 Paul & Steve picked 16 outright winners between them on both Tours for an overall profit of 286.8 points on the season. Some examples of the most popular pages are US Masters tips and Open Championship tips pages - naturally these are 2 of the biggest weeks in the golfing calendar so picking a winner is all the more exciting!
As part of producing the predictor models there is inevitably an awful lot of data used and discarded. Well rather than throw that data away, we produce a series of stats pages each week, all accessible from our golf stats section. Data includes current form stats from the last 10 events, event average score, players results by year, missed cuts and first round leader stats.
